Products - Net Weight

This module adds a new weight concept to your products: the net weight, meaning the weight of the product itself without its container or packaging. The existing weight field is relabelled as Gross Weight, which is the weight including container and packaging.

You will find the new Net Weight field on the product form, right next to the Gross Weight field, both on the product template and on individual product variants. On templates that have several variants, the net weight is only shown when you are editing a specific variant, because each variant can have its own value.

A business rule is enforced automatically: the net weight can never be higher than the gross weight. If you try to save a product where the net weight is greater than the gross weight, Odoo blocks the save and shows an error message naming the product. This check uses the standard Stock Weight decimal precision.

The net weight is stored on the product template and is kept in sync with the variants: changing it on the template updates the variants, and changing it on a variant updates the template. When you create a product with a net weight value, it is correctly applied to the variants as well.

The module touches the product and product template models and depends on the Inventory (stock) module. It also includes a demo product, a jar of strawberry jam, with a net weight of 0.250 and a gross weight of 0.410.
